2010 Emmy Awards Fashion: Best & Worst
Monday, August 30, 2010 @ 10:13 PM 0 comments!

Did everyone/anyone watch the Emmy's last night?  Jimmy Fallon was hilarious.  Especially loved the opening segment that was both pre-taped and live.  (Plus the impersonations of Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, & Green Day).  I wasn't too happy about Lost not winning any awards (they were robbed!), but this is a fashion blog, not an awards show rant blog.  Fashion on the red carpet last night ranged from the extremely odd to the extremely gorgeous.  Here are, in my opinion, the 5 best and the 5 worst dresses:

BEST

Jane Lynch

dress: Ali Rahimi

Not only am I psyched that she won an Emmy, but it's great to see her in something other than a tracksuit, and she pulls off the dark purple color of this dress quite well.  And she has a "normal" body too!  The one-shoulder cut shows off her muscular arms.

Lea Michele

dress: Oscar de la Renta

The newly slimmed-down Glee star shows off her enviable figure in this dark-hued strapless dress.  The birthday girl--she turned 24 yesterday--is positively glowing, and the choker necklace is a simple yet perfect add-on to her outfit.  In about a year, she's gone from unknown to constantly being on the Best Dressed list.

Tina Fey

dress: Oscar de la Renta

This funny lady isn't normally known for taking fashion risks, so this dress comes as a happy surprise -- the designs, which could've been distracting, make the dress more than just a silver dress.  Her hair also looks quite glamorous yet relaxed when pull back into a sleek ponytail.

Claire Danes

Dress: Armani Prive

The Emmy winner looks absolutely lovely in a sparkly strapless dress that looks ravishing on her tall, thin figure.  She looked even more gorgeous onstage when she accepted her award, and she and hubby Hugh Dancy make a pretty fine-looking couple.

Elisabeth Moss

Dress: Donna Karan

The Mad Men Emmy nominee is normally cute, but not unusually beautiful, yet in this one-shouldered number she definitely stands out -- and her adorable smile makes it hard to believe she is recently divorced.  This is own classically beautiful gown that takes her from girly cute to red carpet gorgeous.

WORST

Maria Menounos

dress: custom-made Ralph & Russo

There's no doubt that Maria Menounos is beautiful and slim -- but she doesn't need to showcase her fit body by wearing a cut-out dress that leaves little to the imagination.  What's worse is that her toned abs were a distraction when she was interviewing celebrities, and this certainly doesn't seem appropriate for an awards show that is meant to be family friendly.

Lauren Graham

dress: Yigal Azrouel

There's nothing wrong with color-blocking, but the Emmy presenter and Parenthood chose a dress that appears amateurishly designed.  Yigal Azrouel's collection is often a bit out there, and if Graham wanted to stand out then she should have chosen a dress that looked more put together.

January Jones

dress: Versace

While it is certainly alright for this Mad Men blond to date whomever she wants--who cares if she's with Jason Sudeikis from SNL?--it seems a bit 80's to be wearing an avant-garde dress that features a cone bra design.  The bold blue color does look stunning on the actress, but the style is too farfetched and her hair seems too messy to fit with the other glamorous women of the evening.

Anna Paquin

dress: Alexander McQueen

I congratulate the New Zealander on her recent marriage to True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer, though it appears that she is preparing for battle in this dress.  The late McQueen was renowned for his crazy, ostentatious outfits, but few of them seem appropriate for the red carpet.  But Paquin herself does look pretty and her updo is one of the best of the night.

Heidi Klum

dress: Marchesa

The Project Runway host looks gorgeous and glowing as usual, though did she look in the mirror before she left the house?  Yes, her look is polished, but a mini dress such as this is far from appropriate for a mother for four, let alone a family-friendly awards show.  Her toned gams look great, of course, but the dress is still a couple inches too short.
