Last-minute Halloween costumes
Friday, October 29, 2010 @ 11:57 AM 0 comments!

It's not too late to get a Halloween costume!  Granted, it may be difficult to buy one online and have it shipped to you in time for Sunday, but I'm hoping that these costumes will at least give you ideas.  (If not for this year, then certainly for next year).  But I may appear to be a hypocrite because I'm not dressing up, but that's mostly because I haven't been invited to any parties (not living in a city is definitely not a benefit).  However, for those women who are lucky enough to be invited to a Halloween shindig, here are some ideas:

fall outfits...not using polyvore!
Thursday, October 21, 2010 @ 11:17 AM 0 comments!

As much as I love Polyvore, it's fairly limited in its options -- if you're looking for something that's a specific price, unless you're looking for something basic like a "black bag" it's probable you won't find too many styles you like.  So this time I resorted to choosing pieces individually, which is a bit more time-consuming and takes up quite a bit of space, but it's worth it if you want to have more options.  I particularly like searching for items on the "Shopping" tab on Google.

Who's that girl?
Saturday, October 16, 2010 @ 6:04 PM 0 comments!

Have you ever been curious about the models who are featured in ads for your favorite designs?  Well, many of may not care, but as a dedicated America's Next Top Model (ANTM) viewer and a wannabe model (alas, I'm at least 8 inches too short), I do care.  If you've seen ANTM, then you know that modeling's no easy feat, and as much as you want to hate them for being tall and super thin, aside from those who have eating disorders most are genetically blessed.  Regardless of your opinion of models, I hope you find it interesting to learn the names behind the girls/women you've been seeing in the latest ads.

Fall trends at, literally, every budget
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 @ 6:44 PM 0 comments!

If you haven't already noticed, I'm kind of obsessed with Polyvore -- it's ridiculously easy to create outfits, and my favorite tool enables you to search for items within a certain price range.  So I thought I'd create outfits based on various budgets, going from under $50 per piece to $1,000+ per piece.  Again, these are merely outfit ideas, so you need not spend all your savings on a purse or pair of jeans, no matter how enticing they may be...

The chicest fall styles
Thursday, October 7, 2010 @ 4:35 PM 0 comments!

I'm hoping that "chicest" is a word, and you'd think that a grammar Nazi like myself would know every word in the dictionary, but alas, I don't.  Regardless, as I've said before, you don't have to throw your fashionista self out the door once temperatures cool down, even if you're not lucky enough to reside in warmer climates (I'm not one of those people, unfortunately).  Look here, and flip through your favorite fashion magazines; I tend to gravitate towards Harpers Bazaar, W, Vogue, among others.  And it's not necessary to be able to afford the designer labels that I typically include in these outfits: Polyvore doesn't have as many options as I would like, and when I find a dress or shoe that fits what I'm looking, it's rarely within a certain price range.  Thus, all you need to do is "copy" these styles--which I can't entirely claim to be my own because various magazines and websites aid me when I create these outfits--and splurge on item or two per outfit.  You need to feel good about yourself, and not feel obligated to buy designer brands all the time.
