SAG Awards 2011: Best & Worst Dressed
Monday, January 31, 2011 @ 10:36 PM 0 comments!

Best Dressed
Claire Danes in Louis Vuitton
This gorgeous Louis Vuitton strapless dress looks perfect on the award winner's tall, slender frame, and the busy yet sophisticated print fills out Danes' boyish figure.

January Jones in Carolina Herrera

The Mad Men star appears to be finally making up for a string of Worst Dressed list appearances, without sacrificing her love for daring fashion.  The classy updo and simple silhouette of the dress remind us of her fashionable small screen alter ego, but the print of this Carolina Herrera dress fits with Jones' style.

Mila Kunis is Alexander McQueen

The Black Swan actress may have been snubbed of an Oscar nomination, but we certainly won't forget this gorgeous Alexander McQueen creation--which unfortunately, I'm guessing, was created after the late designer's death--which she said was "the most comfortable dress" she's ever worn.  Luckily, the dress' color doesn't negatively blend into the red carpet: rather, it flows onto the red carpet as if it is a continuation...

Hailee Steinfeld in Prada

Newcomer Hailee Steinfeld, fresh off her well-deserved Oscar nomination for True Grit, wears a completely age-appropriate yet funky Prada dress; she was the night's youngest nominee, and she smartly looks her age.  Many young actresses these days are attempting to look much older than they are: insanely talented youngsters like Steinfeld needn't appear older than they are.

 Worst Dressed
Eva Longoria in Georges Habeika

Eva Longoria is gorgeous and has an equally stunning figure, but the presenter seems to be attempting what January Jones failed in doing at the Golden Globes: wearing a revealing, cut-out dress.  It's ok to show a little cleavage, but in an ensemble like this Georges Habeika dress, little is left to the imagination.

Amy Adams in Herve Leroux

A dress like this Herve Leroux white halter doesn't hide anything, and although The Fighter nominee looks gorgeous in most things, it seems that she hasn't quite gotten rid of her baby weight.  Her weight seems to have redistributed itself, and while she has a healthy body and she doesn't necessarily have to lose weight, but a body-hugging dress just isn't right for her.

Julia Stiles in Monique Lhuillier

I don't particularly like tie-dye, so maybe that's why Julia Stiles' strapless Monique Lhuillier rubs me the wrong way.  The Dexter star looks stunning, but I'm a bit distracted by the white glow on the bottom of her dress...

Kelly Macdonald in Reem Acra

Does Kelly Macdonald have any make-up on, and did she style her hair at all?  Because both seem rather dull, and perhaps she was trying to make up for this with this daringly odd Reem Acra dress.  But it looks like someone spilled paint on this dress, or it's a Project Runway disaster (or both).

The 2011 Golden Globes: Best & Worst Dressed
Tuesday, January 18, 2011 @ 1:33 PM 0 comments!

The nominees, presenters, and dates at the Golden Globes never fail to amaze and astound us -- with their fashion, that is.  Of course, the primary reason I watch award shows is to see who wins, but let's be honest: don't we all love to clamor over the deliciously bad and good fashions that present themselves on the red carpet?  I know I'm not the only one who feels no shame in watching Red Carpet Specials merely to see what everyone is wearing.

Best Dressed
Natalie Portman in Viktor & Rolf
The winner for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) is positively glowing -- and not merely because she won her first Golden Globe and is won step closer to Oscar.  The newly-engaged Black Swan star concealed her burgeoning baby bump in a beautiful Vikor & Rolf strapless pale pink dress.  Some have complained about the seemingly random placement of the red rose, but I think it makes the dress a lot less boring, though it would've looked anything but boring on Portman regardless.

Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive

The nominee for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy) is the epitome of Hollywood glamor; I don't always love long-sleeved dresses, but this shimmering Armani Prive looks gorgeous on the Love & Other drugs star.  As far as she has come from her Princess Diaries days, it seems she has retained some of that princess sophistication.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta

The nominee for Best TV Comedy Actress doesn't shy away from the bold yet fun looks that made skyrocketed her to the top of Best Dressed lists in 2010.  On anyone else, this pink one-shoulder Oscar de la Renta dress wouldn't been too much, but it looks fantastic on the Glee star's figure.  She may have lost to the absent Laura Linney, but between her flawless Red Carpet looks and Glee's Best TV Comedy win, she has much to smile about.

Mila Kunis in Vera Wang

The nominee for Best Supporting Actress (Movie) has been working her way up to the Best Dressed lists, with her glamorous yet unique looks.  The Black Swan star has come a long way since her That 70's Show days, and thankfully she has gained some much-needed weight since she trimmed down to a scary-skinny 95 pounds for the film.  This dress combines two of the night's most popular trends, one-shoulder and green, without being ostentatious.

Jennifer Lawrence in Louis Vuitton

I'm surprised that few have talked about the dress worn by the nominee for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) -- the talented newcomer's Louis Vuitton corset dress is a welcome departure from the bold colors that dominated the evening.  I have the feeling that, as was the case with Carey Mulligan last year, Lawrence will surprise use with unique looks.

Worst Dressed
Heidi Klum in Marc Jacobs

Can someone tell me why the Project Runway host was at the Golden Globes?  She wasn't a nominee, presenter, or a date.  Regardless, the frequent Worst Dressed list beauty once again finds herself here, in a look that screams for attention: the dress itself is too busy and so far removed from the above Best Dressed looks that it alone seems like a Project Runway disaster.  And, Heidi, did your kids do your make-up?  Maybe they did your styling too.

Christina Aguilera in Zuhair Murad

What happened to the trim, toned physique that the Best Original Song nominee sported in her feature film debut?  Either she has has gained a considerable amount of weight or she is pregnant again.  I hate to say this, but Christina's body is not right for this mermaid-shaped Zuhair Murad dress: yes, she has the right hourglass shape, but at her current weight the dress accentuates her curves in all the wrong ways.

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood

I wish that the nominee for Best Supporting Actress (Movie) had taken after her perfectly proper Queen Mum, as opposed to the crazy Bellatrix Lestrange, who seems present in this nutty Vivienne Westwood concoction.  Of course, we wouldn't expect anything less from an actress whose style is as varied as her roles, but, seriously, mismatched shoes??

January Jones in Versace

The presenter looks stunning in everything, and if only her fashion choices were as gorgeous and wise as those of her Mad Men character, Betty Draper.  But, alas, the blonde beauty makes another daringly bad decision with this Versace dress that inappropriately showcases her, um, assets.  If there's anyone who could pull off a look like this, it would be her, but when she was having second thoughts about wearing it she should have gone with her instinct.

Julianne Moore in Lanvin

The nominee for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Comedy) wears a dress that combines two of the night's most popular trends, pink and one-shoulder, with disastrous results.  The kids may be all right, but this look most certainly is not.  What happened to the rest of her dress?  It's as if the designer suddenly stopped and never finished it.  Additionally, the hot pink color doesn't seem appropriate for Moore's pale skin; she should have opted for a more subdued pink, a la Emma Stone.

2011 People's Choice Awards: Best & Worst Dressed
Thursday, January 6, 2011 @ 8:11 PM 0 comments!

We all know that it's always a bunch of teenage girls who vote for the People's Choice Awards so terrible actors like Zac Efron win, but who cares about the awards when there are some fabulous and not-so-fabulous outfits to discuss?

Worst Dressed
These three annoying yet gorgeous Kardashians--Kim, Khloe, & Kourtney--won the award for "Favorite Guilty Pleasure," and they should feel guilty for choosing such horrible dresses.  I know that Kim prefers to wear dresses that showcase her curvaceous figure, but the prints only make her seem bigger than she is; the same goes for the slimmed-down Kourtney, whose mess of a dress enlarges her bottom half.  Khloe is the only one who could possibly pull off a maxi dress, just looks gynormous next to her sisters.  Once again, the dress sabotages her figure.
Congrats on those two heavy trophies, Katy Perry, but do you really want to land on every worst dressed list?  It's no surprise this is a Betsey Johnson dress, but with such a beautiful face and fantastic figure she doesn't need to wear a dress that's so busy.  It's like a fairytale gone wrong.
We appreciate Vanessa Williams' charity work, but this new Desperate Housewife seems desperate for attention in a dress that seems to be made out of a garbage bag.  The wrap style looks great on her figure, but the material?  Not so much.
It wasn't model Niki Taylor's night: she flubbed her lines, and she showed up in this disaster of a dress.  Well, maybe it would be okay if it weren't for the odd ribbon-necklace attached to the top of the dress.  If we can't even tell what you're wearing, do you think you're going to end up on the best dressed list?

Best Dressed
Selena Gomez's fashion now appears to be as unique yet chic as her music.  The 18-year-old surprised us with a great performance of "A Year Without Rain" and wowed us with this gorgeous Paule Ka one-shoulder dress.  With the bonus of her side-swept brunette locks and nude heels, this look is nearly flawless.
Instead of her usual shimmery dress, Taylor Swift instead opted for a pale pink J. Mendel frock that looks toward spring.  The award winner smartly paired this subtle color with a bright red lipstick and dark locks.  The pleated skirt bottom provides the long and lean songstress with curves.
Does anyone know who this is?  I didn't, but this one-shoulder belted Bebe dress wowed me so much that I care.  Kendall Jenner, a younger sister of the poorly-dressed Kardashian sisters, works this body-hugging dress excellently.  It doesn't hurt that she has an amazing figure.
On anyone else, this Edition by Georges Chakra tie-dye dress would have looked terrible.  But, surprisingly, Queen Latifah's full figure makes the dress look stunning.  She certainly has the stature to pull it off, as well as the beauty.  She may not be a real queen, but she looks it here.
