Buying designer handbags on layaway
Monday, July 19, 2010 @ 3:29 PM 0 comments!

Can you tell that I love designer handbags?  It's really not a good obsession, money-wise, but I could be spending my money on other things.  And it's not like I'm buying one every week (or every month, for that matter).  I only spend my money on ones that I absolutely LOVE, and know I'll use often and won't get tired of it.  But, say, you wanted to buy a used Balenciaga Twiggy, but you're not going to be happy when you get your American Express bill.  However, if you pay on "layaway," which is a payment plan, your $745 bag [via shop.realdealcollection.com] would require you to put down only $223.50 as an initial deposit; another $223.50 would be due in 30 days, and the remaining balance ($298) would be due after 60 days.  Although you wouldn't receive the bag until after you make your final payment, it's much better than forking out the $745 all at once.  And there are a number of other websites, which I've listed below, that allow you to purchase bags via layaway (some ebay sellers, if you ask, may even do that!), though the policies & details of the layaway differ.

-annsfabulousfinds.com -- you have the option of a 30- or 60-day layaway; with the latter, the Hermes Vermillion Trim 31 ($1,700) would require a down payment of $510, pay another $510 after 60 days, and the final balance of $680 after 60 days.
-bagpassion.com -- this site is unique in that it has a 90-day layaway; the [Balenciaga] Mandarine Coin Purse ($365) would require four equal payments of $91.25.
-chaneltouch.com -- this site has a 30-day layaway plan, which would require you to pay $899.50 as a deposit and again after 30 days for the Chanel Honey Beige Caviar Classic Timeless Tote Bag ($1,799).
-coutureusa.com -- this site would require you to first put down $60 for the Burberry Red Nova Check Tote ($199.99), and the majority of the balance ($139.99) would be due after 60 days.
-frombagstoriches.com -- this site would require you to make three equal monthly payments of $173.75 for the Gerard Darel Barcelona Midday/Midnight 24 Hours Hobo ($521.25).
-let-trade.com -- this site doesn't have a specific payment plan, but let's assume it'd be the same as above -- so you'd make 3 equal payments of $350 for the Louis Vuitton Dentelle Kristen Shoulder Bag ($1,0499.99).
-shop.luxepurses.com -- this site has 30-day and 60-day layaway plans, the former requiring you to pay $210 each at the beginning and after 30 days for the Tory Burch Bombe Burch Tote in Distressed Pop Pink ($420).
-rodeodriveresale.com -- this site has a very specific layaway plan, but you would only be required to put down $57.50 for the Kate Spade Large Orange Leather Tote ($229.99).
-strictlypursonal.com -- this site would require you to put down $399.50 for the Marc Jacobs Fuschia Leather Quilted Hobo ($799), and the remaining $399.50 can be paid in 2 installments of $199.75
